I travel quite a lot. In fact I have been to 132 cities in 4 continents and the list is ever growing. My travel style is constantly changing as I get older and the kind of places we visit also changes. Recently my biggest issue with travel has been the lack of a proper elegant travel bag that suits my travel style, holds my beloved DSLR, a couple of lenses and my iPad.
When I say my travel style has changed, I meant to say that I now enjoy travelling in luxury and visit elegant places. Perhaps it is because I am maturing as an individual and so are my tastes. Or perhaps it is because I am able to afford luxury travel. My wife shares the same tastes as mine and loves luxury travel.
In the past, I used to lug around my trusty Swiss Backpack. This bag, made in Switzerland, is quite well made and has lasted me for a number of years with out showing any signs of wear. Of course I took good care of it. I have travelled to more than 10 countries with this bag. It would accommodate my DSLR, 3-4 lenses, my 15″ Macbook Pro, a large Gorillapod, other bits and pieces and a water bottle.
The issue now is that it looks quite unstylish. I am more into elegant and stylish stuff, these days, and this just does not cut it. I do not want to be seen having this huge, rugged thing on my back while wearing my Burberry shirt and my Louis Vuitton shoes! I am looking for an elegant leather satchel bag that is made of fine leather, would hold my DSLR and perhaps one other lens and looks good on my shoulder.
Guess what? Turns out it is extremely difficult finding such a suitable leather bag. I had been searching for one these past couple of months and quire frustrated. I have tried Massimo Dutti, Case, House of Fraser, Fossil (they do have one that almost fits my criteria but does not look polished or elegant enough), Burberry, ONA etc. I find bags that are either in the “holdall” category or flat ones that are usually called the “man bags”.
I will continue my search and will update this post once I get the right one. Is any one else having this problem? Has any one solved it? Any recommendations? Please comment below.
