Ever since I started following Matt Cutts’ 30 Day Challenge series last year I was quite to try one of my own. In December I decided that I would try 2 30 Day challenges in the New Year. The first would be to write a daily post on my personal blog (i.e this one) and the second one is to go alcohol free for 30 days.
I have always been writing for my business websites and write close to 2000 words a day – sometimes 5 days a week. But this challenge is about writing on my personal blog that are non business related and perhaps just about personal opinions, ideas etc. I know this to be a challenge because when I write for business I find it quite easy and natural. When I start writing personally I realize the words start to dry up and I do not sound like myself. I find it hard to form sentences and express my feelings, ideas or emotions.
So this 30 day challenge should force me to write at least 300 words every day on my personal blog and help me overcome my issues with writing personally. Why write personally, you may ask. The inspiration comes from James Altucher. James writes so well and so profoundly that I want to learn to write like him. Yes, I mean it. His natural writing and he ease with which he expresses profound ideas inspires me to no end.
The second challenge is a little ironic since I am very passionate about Whisky and run my own whisky blog. However, December has been a month of parties, dinners and excessive drinking. I wanted to detox myself and also get some control over alcohol. I find that all my hard working running 5 miles, 3 times a week, is of no help when I consume a whole ton of calories on weekends.
If I am successful with these two challenges, next I will go for 30 days with out meat! Now that would quite a challenge for me and if I can hit that, I can say I am truly in control of myself!
