Truth Ends Marriage

March 11, 2008

The Moment of TruthApparently, the new reality television show “Moment of Truth” has proven a bitter pill to swallow for at least one couple, who have reportedly ended their marriage after appearing on the show. A UK version of this show is hosted by Jerry Springer and is called “Nothing But The Truth”.

Contestant Lauren Cleri, 26, was married for two years to Frank Cleri, 24, a New York police officer, but after a stint on the lie-detector reality show, she has left him after she revealed on air that she cheated on him and was still in love with an ex-boyfriend on their wedding day.

Lauren told the New York Post that she and husband are ”kind of up in the air right now — I want to [get back together], but I don’t think he does.”

For those who have avoided watching this reality show, “Moment of Truth” has contestants take a lie-detector test backstage and then go on camera and be asked the same questions, receiving cash prizes for truthful answers.

On the show that ended her marriage, Lauren revealed before her parents, siblings, and husband that she had slept with another man while married to Frank, that she was still in love with an ex on her wedding day, and that she really thinks she should be married to a former boyfriend. (An actual former boyfriend appeared on the show to ask that last question.)

To make matters worse, the couple didn’t even win any money because, despite the polygraph finding Lauren’s detrimental answers ”true,” when she was asked whether she thinks she is a good person, she said yes and the machine said the answer was ”false.”
