"JFTP::connect: Bad response" Error in Joomla

I installed 1.0.12 and the 1.0.5 version of the Joomla template a little while ago and then tried to access the administrator panel. I got an error saying “JFTP::connect: Bad response”. It would not let me go to the next part.

After several attempts at changing file permissions etc I finally decided to change the FTP address in the configuration.php from the default one to the real domain URL and it worked fine.
