A Cool New Case for Your Cool New Toy
When I first got my iPad, I tended to use it without a case. I liked seeing it in all its simple, shiny glory. In addition, because I was one of the first people to own one, I liked the prestige of actually having the latest gadget. Now, however, my iPad is getting a little beat-up, probably from going so long without a protective case. It is definitely time to buy one, and luckily there are several iPad cases on the market that match my sense of style.
Louis Vuitton recently came out with two new iPad cases. Instead of a normal carrying case, these are more functional in design. The iPad stays inside and can be viewed through a window. All you see is Louis Vuitton signature monogram leather, not my beat-up stock casing. In addition, the cases can be used as a stand, snapping into a triangular shape when you fold the cover behind.
The case is not all form and no function, either. It has a microfiber lining that could keep my iPad from getting more dings and scratches, as well as holes for the dock connector, earbud jack, the power button and the volume. There are also brass details because, you know, it’s Louis Vuitton. In addition to the brown monogram leather, the case comes in black Taiga leather. The black leather case is durable and sleek, but it lacks the obvious designer appeal of the monogram one.
If you are not a fan of Louis Vuitton (a condition that I cannot comprehend) or if you simply want a more traditional iPad case, consider the Gucci iPad case. This is a more traditional, slide-in/slide-out case without any standing function or other frills. It has a smooth suede lining that keeps the screen clean and free of scratches, as well as a strap closure to hold your gadget securely.
Gucci has a more interesting range of cover materials. In addition to the standard brown Gucci monogram, you can get a black leather case with embossed monogram print and even a monogrammed neoprene rubber ‘Guccissimma’ for people who desire something a bit more functional.
Another, more subtle option that I looked at is the Thom Browne iPad case. This one is a little less flashy than the Gucci and Louis Vuitton offerings, although it is still a sleek and stylish choice. Released as part of the Fall/Winter 2011 collection, it has the shape and details of a briefcase, along with gold details and tricolor ribbon accents. One of the things that I like about it is that it has a lock, which can come in handy if you have nosy people in your life.
Whatever your needs and preferences, one of these designer iPad cases is sure to be right for you. They each have a unique style and all of the luxury details that I look for in accessories. After all, I take my iPad everywhere, so why not make it a fashion statement?
